Skills & Attributes

National Scouting Director for PrepStar Magazine, Bill Harrison, recently said that "Justin Putnam is an outstanding college prospect who has worked extremely hard the past couple of off-seasons to refine both his kicking and punting skills. Justin has excellent leg strength, he is very consistent with his mechanics, and he really has the type of concentration that is needed to be successful at the collegiate level. In watching Justin in a recent game he was able to kick a 43 yard field goal from the left hash mark, into a slight breeze, and he had about 10 yards to spare. This is an excellent example of the type of leg strength and accuracy that Justin has. There was no doubt about that kick! In the same game Justin easily kicked 4 of 6 kickoffs OUT of the end zone, and he had an average of about a 3.95 hang time on each. It was a good night for Justin." Justin Putnam has recently said of himself that "My primary goal as a kicker on the football team is to meet the expectations of my teammates. I work out with the team, I run with the team, and I bleed with the team in order to show them that I am there with them. By doing this I know I will always have their support during the tough situations. I also have a good ability to forget about a bad kick and to bounce back and make the next kick really count. I never let a missed field goal get to my head, and I totally focus on the next opportunity to prove myself.I always maintain a good attitude and never quit on anything, no matter what the situation or competition is. For 7 or 8 years I have been able to perform under high competitive pressure, and I look forward to the challenge of competing at the collegiate level."1

Coach's Comments

Coach Woods says, "was quoted in the Austin American Statesman as saying he believes he has the best field goal kicker in the nation. "
