Skills & Attributes
As one of the top underclassmen in Southern California Derrick Coleman will be a key ingredient for Troy High School in 2007. As a result of his 2006 performance Derrick has been tabbed as one of the "Top Seniors to Watch" by PrepStar Magazine. It has been said that "Derrick has a lot of drive; he is extremely focused; he is totally dedicated to the game; and he is a true leader amongst his peers." Physically, Derrick possesses good upper body strength; he has great instincts; and he is extremely quick on his feet." As a running back, Derrick is both elusive and is able to take the hits. During his Junior season Derrick chalked up over 2400 yards rushing and had 38 TD's. That experience alone will make Derrick an immediate threat during the coming season. Derrick is also a big threat as a kick-return man for Troy. It has also been said that "anytime Derrick touches the ball he is dangerous. He can score from anywhere on the field, and he has the field vision to really make something happen." Derrick really understands the game and he realizes the type of work ethic and dedication it will take to make the transition to the collegiate level.

Coach's Comments

 |
Coach Burton says, ""It is my pleasure to share comments about Derrick Coleman as a football player, but most importantly his character as a student athlete at Troy High School. This 2006 season Derrick will be a three year starter as a Running Back. Last year, his sophomore season, resulted in being named 1st team All Freeway League and All-CIF Division. Derrick''s work ethics and goal driven standards has allowed him to be so successful on the field and in the classroom. During the off-season he is one of the strongest lifters in the program. Clean and jerk over 285 pounds and snatch 225 pounds. He is very coach able and a student of the game. His ability to see the holes and follow his blocks is a tremendous asset. He is a strong, tough player. A true competitor. Additionally, Derrick is committed to team play. He is well respected by his teammates. He represents all the good of High School Athletics. I expect him to be Senior captain in the 2007 Football season."
